Mike Miller just sent me a link to your blog - I'll read some more at some point.

Funny thing is Carl that I'm enjoying John's commentary on the whole bible - that he wrote fairly recently for him - more than anything else.

It's like having a personal tour through the scriptures with a guy who knows them better than most in history. What a treat!

Anyway, great to see you doing good things in your ministry. I'll try and catch up again properly soon (I know this is the wrong place to write, but I'm supposed to go to bed now and had to write something quickly!)

I like the idea that God, who has apparently chosen our species to relate to him in a special way and represent him, calls us as a part of that to overcome our animal instincts. What Paul might have called "the flesh".

Of course this idea is in tension with aspects of the traditional doctrine of "the Fall". But since that isn't explicitly taught in the Bible anyway (I think it comes from Augustine), maybe rethinking is in order.
I guess you heard about the 2 profs at Calvin College who are in hot water (one forced out) for doing such rethinking ...

Huge loss. They don't make them like that any more. When I look at Time's list of the 25 Most Infuential Evangelicals in America, it makes me want to throw up. It embarrasses the church.

Will we ever have voices like Stott's again, or will we have more stupid impulsive tweets about taxes, and fraudulent historians?

I suspect more of that latter. John Stott, we miss you more than we mostly likely can appreciate!

Thanks for your thoughts! Camping's prediction does challenge us to be charitable, to speak the truth in love as we (strongly) disagree. God give us all grace!
I just hope this doesn't become our Christian version of "the sky is falling!!!", if you know what I mean.

i confess, i'm a bit of a "clanging cymbal", but i am not fond of mockers. because they closely mimic behavior of "the real thing" (whatever that is), it can create a great deal of confusion. furthermore, when you examine the basis for this particular prediction, it is particularly ridiculous. it's numerology is so bad, it's an insult to numerology!

i think it's actually fair to have the reaction of dismissive skepticism: "what a nut". there's nothing useful in camping's message, theologically or otherwise. many of us have adult minds, with adult reasoning capacity. and while there are more knowns than unknowns about our futures, camping's ideas have no more basis in reality than unicorns.

a lot of people have donated a lot of money to him. some have quit their jobs, sold their homes. sunday morning will be a very difficult time for a lot of people. calling out mad rantings is fair game to me, regardless of your theological persuasion.
